Simon, Ella
Simon was born on a mission at Taree, New South Wales, to a part Aboriginal mother and a white father, but was brought up by her grandparents.
She became the first Aboriginal woman justice of the peace and campaigned against discriminatory laws, including those which confined the Aboriginal people to the mission grounds.
