Scott was given for adoption at birth and placed with a family at 9 or 10 months. He grew very tall (6'4") and initially planned a career in professional basketball. He attended Davidson College on a basketball scholarship and graduated in political science, but decided on a business career.
He got a job for IBM in the maintenance room and has worked his way up to the position of vice president of sales in their Personal Systems Group.
He is married with four children and has traced his birth siblings, who remained with their mother.
He says: "Life's not a walk in the park, but if you can focus on the positives in your life, versus the negative, great things can happen."
