Naked was born in New Delhi to an unmarried Canadian mother and British father, and placed for adoption with an American missionary couple when just a few days old. Due to problems with her documentation it was two years before she was able to leave the country with her new parents, and then grew up in the USA until she was 12, when the family moved to Canada.

For the next few years her behavior caused considerable concern to her parents, but she is now a leading Canadian solo singer and has also toured with Lilith Fair, founded by Sarah McLachlan .

She was briefly married to her drummer and has a child; she is bisexual.
