Welsh-Italian Catholic priest

Canon Lewis was the priest in charge of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore inRome, one of the most important churches of the Roman Catholic church, and raisedover £4,000,000 for its restoration.

He spent his entire childhood from the age ofsix months in a Protestant orphanage in Bridgend, Glamorganshire.

He was the subjectof a program on the Welsh-language television channel S4C.
