As a young man he began acting on the stage (Changing Rooms was his first major play), then in 1980 he began in films (The Long Good Friday, For Your Eyes Only, Goldeneye, Nomads, Mrs. Doubtfire, Dante's Peak, The English Patient, etc.), and his television work includes The Mansions of America and Remington Steele. He is a supporter of environmental causes.
Brosnan is also an adoptive father: his son Chris Brosnan is a film producer.
