Brickley's mother died when he was four and he was physically and emotionally abused by his step-mother for years. When he was 10 his father discovered the abuse and he was placed with his maternal aunt, who later adopted him. When he was 15 he had the first indications that he could heal other people, but it was not really recognized by him or others until he was in his late 20s, when he attended a spiritualist church. He now practices healing in a village near Brecon, Wales, working with both people and animals.
