Bloodvessel, Buster
1958-
Also known as Douglas Trendle
British musician, actor, and hotelier
Douglas Trendle was born in Stoke Newington, London, and raised by his great-aunt and -uncle, believing his mother was his Auntie Lily. He overheard that he was adopted when he was seven: "'Yeah, it hurt. A real strange feeling went through my body.' Did Buster do anything about this revelation? 'Yeah. I wet the bed.'" He never met his birth father. He formed a ska band in 1979 called Bad Manners, which he stayed with until it broke up in 1988. In 1980 and 1981 the band had two number-three chart hits: "Special Brew" and a version of the can-can. He still tours with a reformed Bad Manners and formed another band, Buster All Stars, for touring. He acted in Sammy and Rosie Get Laid and Out of Order and in TV commercials. Recently he bought a hotel in Margate which he has renamed Fatty Towers, to cater for the obese (he himself weighs about 360 lb. or 163kg).
