Agbabi, Patience

1965-

Nigerian-British poet

Agbabi was born in London to Nigerian parents but fostered from birth by a white family, while maintaining frequent contact with her birth family. She was brought up in Sussex and North Wales and educated at Oxford University.

She has published two collections of her own poetry: R.A.W. (1995) and Transformatrix (2000) and contributed to several collections. She does frequent public readings, including overseas travel under the sponsorship of the British Council, has been writer in residence at a tattoo parlor, the Poetry Café and Oxford Brookes University, and now (October 2002) teaches creative writing at the University of Wales, Cardiff. She is bisexual.
